The Art of Getting Comps

Many ordinary gamblers want to know how they can get comps from the casinos. You may have heard of fantastic stories of someone getting free gifts, meals or tickets from the casino. While these stories are very exciting and interesting, it pays to know that not all gamblers can get comps. There are several reasons why casinos give away comps, and you need to know how you can get comps for your gambling activities.

Comps is derived from the word "complimentaries" and means something that a casino gives to its customers for their continued loyalty and patronage. Comps can range from the simplest items like key chains and pens to more expensive ones like jewelry and clothing. Comps can also be free restaurant meals, free stay at hotel rooms, and free tickets to entertainment shows. The kind of comps a player can get depends on the time and money he spent gambling at the casino, the casino's regulations on comps, luck, the pit boss and even the weather!

Casinos offer comps not only as a sign of gratitude but also as an incentive to keep a player coming back. To be able to qualify for comps, you must "convince" the casino that you'll be returning in the future to play and gamble again. You can do this by getting a comp card which the casino uses to keep track of your gambling activities. Always be sure to hand over your comp card to the dealer or pit boss so that he can rate you.

Now that you've been rated, how can you get comps and how can you redeem them? As the casinos base their comp rewards on the time and money you've spent, you should be prepared to spend a great deal of money and to play for several hours. This means that if you can afford to spend thousands of dollars playing for 2-3 hours, then do so. For the budget-conscious, it will take a little more time to get comps for the smaller amounts that you spend, but if you always use your comp card and keep coming back to play, you will get comps sooner or later. A good rule of thumb is to play for an hour or two each time you play at the casino.

Use your comp card not only for the casino but for its satellite establishments as well (hotels, shops, restaurants, etc.). Be polite and respectful to your fellow players, the dealer and to everyone at the casino. Look respectable by dressing nicely and tipping the dealers and the waiters.

Getting comps is a great way to make your casino gambling more enjoyable. At least, you'll know that you will get back some of the investment you've made in your gambling. Make sure that you know how to win in gambling or else you'll win only the comps, not the big money prizes which should be your ultimate goal.
